Free in Bethesda — Where can you spend the day on a budget?

Cabin John Regional Park also includes a dog park where your pet can play and mingle with other dogs while you chat with other dog lovers. The area is safe to let your dog off the lead, and there’s a supply of fresh water so your pet won’t become overheated. The park is open from sunrise to sunset.

Caroline Freeland Urban Park

Take your children to the Caroline Freeland Urban Park, where there’s a fun playground with swing sets, slides, and a large climbing structure. A covered picnic area is close by for when the children are tired and need some refreshments or lunch—a perfect place for family picnics. 

Elm Street Park

Alternatively, head to Elm Street Park, which has similar amenities. The two-acre park is an excellent place for a walk or cycle. You can also check out the "Girl with Hoop" statue created by sculptor Jenny Read.

McCrillis Gardens

If you’re interested in plants, a visit to McCrillis Gardens will be worth your while. You’ll find a selection of trees, flowers, and shrubs artfully arranged by botanical art students. Each flower and plant has been specially selected to add color or texture to the garden year-round. 

Ratner Museum

At the Ratner Museum, you can learn all about religion and the Hebrew Bible through the medium of art. The displays are hands-on and include sculptures and paintings as well as children's books. There’s also a lovely sculpture outside the museum.
